Lectio Divina Workshop

Lectio Divina, literally meaning “divine reading,” is an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures. During Lectio Divina, the practitioner listens to the text of the Bible with the “ear of the heart,” as if he or she is in conversation with God, and God is suggesting the topics for discussion.

Like Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina cultivates contemplative prayer. Unlike Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina is a participatory, active practice that uses thoughts, images and insights to enter into a conversation with God.

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

"Centering Prayer is a discipline to foster interior transformation, initiated by God and leading, if we consent, to divine union. One’s way of seeing reality changes, which empowers one to perceive and respond to everyday life with sensitivity to the dive presence in, through and beyond everything." - Thomas Keating, Open Heart Open Mind

About the Event

In this session, we will examine how Centering Prayer can deepen our relationship with God, others and ourselves. We will learn the method of Centering Prayer and how to deal with our thoughts during the prayer period. There will be two periods of Centering Prayer and a time for questions. A boxed lunch will be served.

Included in the Workshop is the opportunity to attend 6 continuing sessions and options to join a Centering Prayer to support your practice.

Presenters

Tom Benson, Chapter Coordinator and Diane Papolis, Commissioned Presenter for Contemplative Outreach of Central NC.

mirror for the soul.jpg

Come join us as we read, relate and explore who we are and why we are, who we are so that we might become more aware of the gifts, opportunities and grace that God extends to us and through us to others.  This is an excellent introduction to the Enneagram and promises to guide us to a deeper relationship with God, family, friends and the others that impact our lives daily.

Please purchase the book and read through Chapter 2 prior to the first session:
https://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Soul-Christian-Guide-Enneagram/dp/0830846328
or your favorite bookstore.

"The Enneagram is like a mirror, reflecting dimensions of ourselves that are sometimes hard to see. In this helpful guide, spiritual director and Enneagram teacher Alice Fryling offers an introduction to each number of the Enneagram and their respective triads. More than just helping us discern our number, this book relates the Enneagram to our spiritual journey as a way to identify our gifts as well as our blind spots.

With Scripture meditations and questions for reflection and discussion, Mirror for the Soul offers a new perspective on our unique temperament so that we might know and extend God's grace more fully. Knowledge of the Enneagram leads us into more authentic self-awareness, richer relationships, and deeper places in the soul where we can worship God in truth and grace."

“Who in the World Am I? The Enneagram is like a mirror, reflecting dimensions of ourselves that are sometimes hard to see. In this helpful guide, spiritual director and Enneagram teacher Alice Fryling helps us understand each number of the Enneagram and then takes us to deeper into the spiritual journey. Scripture meditations and questions for reflection and discussion lead us to a new perspective on our unique temperament so that we might know and extend God’s grace more fully. Along the way we will discover both gifts and blind spots. Knowledge of the Enneagram leads us into more authentic self-awareness, richer relationships, and deeper places in the soul where we can worship God in truth and grace.” - From the back cover of Mirror for the Soul

Growth Series Course: Emotionally Health Spirituality

This Growth Series course integrates Emotional Health with Contemplative Practices to help us grow into emotionally mature Christian adults. As we begin to understand ourselves better and begin to incorporate contemplative practices to deepen our relationship with God, we begin to see ourselves transformed into Christ likeness, our true-selves.

“This book is meant to transform your life, not merely provide information. It is an invitation to a deeper and wider relationship with Jesus Christ, requiring you to journey into the unknown, much like Abraham did when he left his comfortable home in Ur. The combination of emotional health and contemplative spirituality – the heart of the message found on these pages – will unleash a revolution into the deep places of your life. This revolution, in turn, will transform all your relationships.” -  From Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
